Boris Schmidt is Chair of Hamburg sports club Bergedorf e.V., one of the biggest sport clubs in Germany with currently 11 000 members. Bergedorf is one of the TSI case studies on barriers and resilience strategies of TSOs in the field of sports. Other than many other sports clubs Bergedorf is growing thanks to sensitivity towards new trends and changing interests of citizens, and its ability to successfully integrate different organizational practices and cultures. It addresses particularly well the growing service orientation of sports club members, the diversification of sport interests and popularity of lifestyle and health related sports.

Boris is also a basketball referee, manager of the committee of referees of the German Basketball Alliance, and President of the Hamburg Basketball Federation.
